Ewald Mueller, who owns and operates two hundred and forty-five acres of land on sections 5 and 32, Washington township, was born in Germany in 1870. He is a son of John and Elizabeth Mueller, the former of whom died in Germany in 1909. The mother afterward came to America and now makes her home with one of her sons in Bremer county. She and her husband became the parents of six children, two of whom died in Germany. The others are: Ewald, of this review; Henry, of Washington township; Hannah, the wife of Edward Whitney, of Bureau county, Illinois; and Georgia, of Bremer county, Iowa.

Ewald Mueller acquired his education in the public schools of his native country and in 1884 came to America. He settled first in Illinois, where he worked upon a farm for six years, after which he came to Iowa, settling in Bremer county in 1891. He rented land for a short time and afterward bought one hundred and five acres in Washington township. To this he has added from time to time until his holdings now comprise two hundred and forty-five acres lying on sections 5 and 32, Washington township. This land is well improved and in a high state of cultivation and returns its owner a gratifying annual income.

In 1892 Mr. Mueller married Miss Katherine Goetz, who was born in Illinois and who came to Iowa at the time of her marriage. She is a daughter of Veit and Dorothea Goetz, natives of Germany, who emigrated to America in their early years and settled in Illinois. The father operated a farm in that state until his death. Five children were born to their union: Anna, the wife of George Prottengeier, of Bremer county, Leonard, a resident of Illinois; Elizabeth, the widow of William Bauer; Katherine, wife of the subject of this review; and John, who resides in Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Mueller became the parents of six children: Alma, who died in infancy; Emma, who was born in 1894; Freda, born in 1897; Helen, born in 1899; John, 1902, and Albert, 1904.

Mr. Mueller is a member of the German Lutheran church and gives his political allegiance to the republican party. He is known throughout Bremer county as a progressive and successful farmer, whose prosperity is the natural result of his industry and ability.
