Hi Shanan, I found the following in the 1910 census of Boone Ward 4, Boone Iowa.

Robert Smith, age 34. born abt. 1876.
Head of Household....Father's birth, Scotland...Mother's birth, Scotland.
Married, white male. Immigration, 1908
Wife: Ethel
Children: Olive age 5 Gertrude, age 4

No listing of a John Smith. Ethel was most likely pregnant at the time of the census and had John after the census was taken.

Also, do you have a Hester Smith in you files? My great grandmother's name was Hester Smith. She married John W. Moore.
