State Hospital Cemetery-Cass Twp

TUCKER

Does anyone know the full name of the State Hospital associated with the State Hospital Cemetery in Cass Twp. and/or the date this hospital opened? I looked in the 1880 census of Cass Twp and could not find any listings which appeared to be a hospital or institution. Any help greatly appreciated.

This is not the same place as the County Poor Farm and Asylum in Dodge Twp. (the asylum burned in 1894, killing 8 of the 9 inmates). One of those inmates was Mercy Tucker. She was supposed to have been institutionalized in about 1874, but the asylum portion of the poor farm was not built until the late 1880's, when the county thought it to be more financially beneficial to house their own insane rather than place them in a State facility.
