Mary E. Peter, 106, died of heart failure Nov. 29, 1998, at the Evangelical Free Church Home. She lived in Boone County most of her life, and moved to the home in July 1987.
Services for Mrs. Peter will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in northeast Boone County, the Rev. Lindsay Watkins will officiate. She will be buried at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery next to the church at 295 Spruce Lane.
She was born in Benton County on Dec. 10, 1891, the daughter of John and Susan (Klippel) Michel. She attended school at St. Paul's and was married there on Feb. 22, 1911, to Henry Peter.
She was a homemaker and helped her husband farm. The couple lived and farmed in Harrison Township until he retired in 1943. They then moved to Boone in 1975.
Mrs. Peter was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a past member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She sewed and made clothing for herself and her family, and also made quilts with the Ladies Aid Society.
Survivors include three grandchildren and their spouses, Dale and Tracie Peter of Phoenix, Ariz., JoAnn and Bob Shuey of Boone and Beverly and Larry Coghlan of Boone; several great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews in the Boone and Colorado areas.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Cleo and a stillborn son, her sister, Carolyn Haerther, and two brothers, Goerge and Arnold Michel.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Schroeder Funeral Home, 503 Story St. The family will be present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Visitation continues from 8 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home and at the church from noon until the time of service.
