Lloyd Briggs, a well known young man of this city and a trusted and valuable employee and machine operator at the News-Republican office, passed away at his home, 1421 Green street, shortly before 9:00 o'clock Monday evening. It had been noticed for some time that his health was failing, but with characteristic pluck and energy he kept at his work, hoping and feeling that he would regain his former good health. The decree, however, was written otherwise. On Wednesday of last week he was forced to give up his work and he gradually grew weaker until death claimed him Monday evening. Lloyd Henry Briggs was born in Boone, March 20, 1891 making him in his 23rd year at the time of his death. He grew to manhood here, attended the city schools and later learned the printer's trade. He started at carrier boy for the Evening Republican, went from there to the Boone Blank Book Company, then to the Holcomb Printing Company and for the past three years has been on the staff of the News-Republican. He was always faithful, whenever placed and emjoyed the confidence and esteem of his employers and the public generally. March the 2nd, 1910, he was united in marriage with Miss Hattie Davis and she, with one son, Lloyd Chester, are left to mourn his death. He is also survived by his father, W.H. Briggs, one brother, Earl, employed on the Ames Times, and three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Wester and Avo and Hale of this city, his mother and one sister having preceeded him in death. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 from the home and at 3:00 o'clock from the Christian church of which he was a faithful member. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.W. Babcock, assisted by the Rev. W.J. Coulston, of the BAptist church. The remains were laid to rest in Linwood Part Cemetery. The W.O.W. and Woodman Circle attended in a body and had charge of the services at the grave.
