Louis A. Ahrens (1882-1959)

Funeral services for Louis A. Ahrens were conducted by the Rev. Roy Fields at 1:30 p.m. on Friday April 24, 1959 at the Central Christian Church. LaVerne Alsin sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Abide With Me" accompanied by Mrs. Lewis Ross. Pallbearers were Fred Grimm, Lewis Ross, Laurence Anderson, Frank Fibikar, George Fibikar and Chester Johnson. The flower committee was Mr. and Mrs. Bill Toepfer and Mrs. John Wirth. Burial was in Linwood Cemetery.

Louis A. Ahrens, son of John G. Ahrens and Lily Toepfer, was born in Boone County, May 27, 1882 and passed away at the Boone County Hospital April 21, 1959 at the age of 76 years, 10 months, 25 days.

He was engaged in farming in Harrison Township until 1938 when he moved to Boone where he was employed at the Square Deal Oil Company until his retirement.

He was baptized in infancy and confirmed on April 11, 1897 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Mackey. In later years he attended the Central Christian Church in Boone and was a member of the Kum Bak Class. He was a member of the Redman Lodge for a number of years. He enjoyed doing things with his hands and was always ready to help people in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters. Survivors include three brothers, William of Parkersburg, Elmer of Iowa City, Herman of Ames; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Grimm of Des Moines, Mrs. Marie Wirth of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Mrs. Lillian Sturtz of Boone.
