Josephine Wetteland, age 87, of Billings, Montana and formerly of Boone, died May 9, 2009, at the Highgate Senior Living Center in Billings. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall with Pastor David Guilford officiating. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames.
Josephine was born on December 2, 1921, in Mound Valley, Kansas, the daughter of Hugh and Mary (Morain) Terhune. She graduated from Mound Valley High School and then attended business college. On November 23, 1947, she married Arthur Thomas "Tom" Wetteland in Cedar Rapids.
In earlier years, she worked with her husband, Tom in a jewelry business in Jewell and then worked as a secretary at Iowa State University. Later, Josephine worked as a medical secretary for over 20 years at Mary Greely Medical Center in Ames retiring in 1986. The couple lived in Cedar Rapids, Jewell, and moved to Boone in 1965. After the death of her husband in 2005, she moved to Billings in 2006. Josephine was a member of the Central Christian Church in Boone. She enjoyed baking cookies and kringla, especially during the holidays, sewing, and calligraphy. Josephine also enjoyed writing letters and sending cards to family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tom, two brothers, Jim and Carl, and four sisters Ruby, Norma, Mary, and Dorothy. Josephine is survived by two daughters, Hollie Wetteland of Magnolia, Texas and Sondra Guilford and husband David of Billings, Montana; five grandchildren; Seth Guilford and fiancée Cecily Haskell, Shem, Isaac, Israel, and Judah Guilford; a great grandson, Conrad David Guilford; two brothers, Ralph Terhune and wife Dorothy of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Richard Terhune and wife Donna of Dallas, Texas; and two sisters, Zelpha Smith of Kansas City, Kansas and Delores Weir of Tempe, Arizona.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Monday from 1:00 until 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Visitation continues Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until service time.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa-Boone Office or Rocky Mountain Hospice of Billings, Montana.
