Elinor J. Jensen, age 98, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, died February 4, 2009, at the Home. A Graveside service will be Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at the Linwood Park Cemetery with Rev. Dick Dahle officiating. Burial will follow the graveside service.
Elinor was born in Hannaford, North Dakota, on November 20, 1910, the daughter of Edward and Harriet (Ross) Fenton. At the age of 8, her family moved to Boone. She graduated from Boone High School in 1931. On November 13, 1930, Elinor married John Robert Jensen in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1967, after living in Omaha for 12 years, she returned to Boone. She worked as a mechanical engineer at Iowa State University. In earlier years, she was a retail clerk for Hamilton's Hardware and clothing stores in Boone. She was a member of the Antiquestors (descendants of the Mayflower) and the American Association of Embroidery Guild. Elinor enjoyed reading, quilting, and baking, especially pies. She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and she enjoyed their Thursday Fellowship. Elinor especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Elinor is preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter, Joyce Amine Jensen, and five sisters. She is survived by two sons, John "Bob" Jensen, Jr. and wife, Marianne of Severna Park, Maryland and Ed Jensen and wife Joyce of Boone; two daughters, Rosemary Raschke and husband Ronald of Athens, Georgia and Robyn Carter and husband Richard of Omaha, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Tuesday at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Augustana Lutheran Church.
