Ruth Ivadell Hicks, 87, of the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, formerly of Marshalltown, died on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at the home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home Chapel in Boone with Rosemary Mitchum officiating.

Following the funeral service there will be cremation and burial of the cremated remains will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 in the Linwood Park Cemetery of Boone.

Mrs. Hicks was born on Feb. 5, 1918 in Boone County, to John William and Margaret Marie (Otterbein) Ross. She graduated from Boone High School in 1936.

She married Guy Harold Hicks on Dec. 4, 1936, in Bethany, Mo. Her husband and she lived in Ames, until he enlisted in the Navy. She then moved with her two girls to Boone. During the time her husband was in the Navy she worked at the ammunition plant in Ankeny.

Mrs. Hicks worked as a bookkeeper until the age of 62 in various businesses. Her last place of employment was at the YMCA in Marshalltown where she worked for 11 years.

She was a member of the Central Christian Church of Boone, a member of the Parents Without Partners and the Senior Center of Marshalltown, American Legion Auxiliary of Marshalltown and Boone.

Mrs. Hicks moved to the Eastern Star Masonic Home to live in 1998.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother Lester M. Ross.

Survivors include her daughters, Bette Fall and husband David of Colorado Springs, Colo., Nancy (Nan) Ripley and husband Merwyn (Rip) Ripley of Nevada; grandson, Shawn Jacobson and his wife Cheryl of Maryland; step grandson, Trevor Fall and his wife Lori of McKinney, Texas; step granddaughter, Shannon Murray and her husband Al of Ankeny; step granddaughter, Tracey Beem of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 great grandchildren; brother, William Nelson Ross Sr. of Boone.

Visitation with the family present to receive friends will be on Saturday, April 23, 2005, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home Chapel in Boone from 1 to the 2:30 p.m. service time. Please join the family for refreshments after the service in the East Lounge of the Eastern Star Masonic Home.

Memorials may be given "In Memory of Ruth Ivadell Hicks" to the Iowa Arboretum, 1875 Peach Avenue, Madrid, Iowa 50156.

Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, Fifth and Story Streets in Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
