Shirley Ray, 66, Boone, died of hepatic failure Friday, Nov. 5, at the Ogden Manor in Ogden where she had been a resident since Oct. 8.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Augustana Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dick Dahle officiating.

After the service, her body will be cremated and burial of the cremains will be in Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport at a later date.

She was born in Wall Lake on July 21, 1938, the daughter of John and Irene (Wood) Van Vleet and her step-father, Joel Pearson. She graduated from Boone High School in 1955 and on Nov. 17, 1955, she married Robert Ray in Boone.

She was a homemaker. In earlier years, she worked at Hardee's, Wal-Mart and Prairie Meadows. She retired in May of 2000. She was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and step-father. She is survived by her husband, Robert, of the Ogden Manor in Ogden; one son, Paul Ray and his wife, Val, of Grand Juntion; one daughter, Juli Keely and her husband Matt of Boone; four brothers, Bob Van Vleet and wife Georgetta of Olathe, Kan., Velvin Van Vleet and his wife Marianna of Sun City, Ariz., Joel Pearson and his wife Joy of Independence, Mo., and Walter Pearson of Tampa, Fla.; six grandchildren, Katy, Ryan and Lisa Keely, Chance Morrison, and Becky and Jessi Ray.

Visitation is today until 9 p.m. at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation continues Tuesday at the church from 9 a.m. until service time. The casket will not be open at the church.

Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.

Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, is in charge of the arrangements.
