Stan Sutton, 50, 304 W. Park Ave., Boone, died Monday at his home following a lengthy illness.
The body has been cremated and a memorial service was held Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Richard Harken officiating. Private graveside services and burial were in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
He was born Oct. 5, 1952, in Boone, the son of Dr. Gerald and Calista (Olander) Sutton. He married Barbara Kling Sept. 27, 1975, in Boone. He was a lifelong resident of Boone and graduated from Boone High School in 1970. He attended Gustavus Adolfus College in Minnesota and attended Iowa State University. In 1976, he graduated from the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines. He was employed at Boone County Hospital from 1970 until February of this year when he retired due to health reasons following a liver transplant. He was a registered nurse, manager of housekeeping and engineering and was a safety officer. He was also project manager for construction of the new hospital addition. He was active with the Basic Heart Affiliate Facility and he served as 5th Ward councilman and councilman at large for the City of Boone. He was a member of the Boone Parks Foundation, Boone Garden Club, Boone County Cyclone Club and was co-chair of Boone's Pufferbilly Days celebration. He also coached Little League. His hobbies included reading, landscaping and horseback riding.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Steven of Des Moines and Gregg of Boone; one daughter and son-in-law, Katy and Phil Lundberg of Boone; his father, Dr. Gerald Sutton and his wife, Dianna, of Boone; one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Gery and Chris Sutton of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cindy and Bruce Schenck of Glenwood and Emily and Dart Demery of Boone; one grandson, Samuel Lundberg; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother, Bill.
Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, the Boone Parks Foundation or the Boone County Hospital Foundation.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, Boone, was in charge of arrangements.
