Sonya Mahood, 56, of 716 W. Eighth St., Boone, died at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. The body will be cremated. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Harken officiating. Burial will be in Boone Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Boone.

She was born Feb. 19, 1948, in Des Moines, the daughter of O.L. and Dorothea (Wood) Digranes. On June 25, 1971, she married Sandy Mahood at Des Moines.

Sonya was a 1966 graduate of Tech High School in Des Moines and a 1971 graduate of Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at rehab clinics in Denver, Colo., and Polk County, Iowa. For the past 17 years, she was the secretary receptionist in the neurology department at McFarland Clinic in Ames. She enjoyed her children, cats, reading, doing arts and crafts, collecting clowns and teacups and Hummel figurines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, a nephew, and a brother-in-law Joe Winters.

Survivors include her husband of Boone; two daughters, Cassandra Krause of Boone and Annie Mahood of Urbandale; one grandson, Wyatt Krause of Boone; one granddaughter, Samantha Krause of Boone; one sister, Kristine Winters of Boone; one brother, Joseph Digranes and his wife Saundra of Des Moines; one sister-in-law, Sharon Mahood of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; two nieces from Des Moines and Fort Collins; one great-niece from Des Moines and one great-nephew from Des Moines.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone, with the family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to greet friends. Visitation continues from 8 a.m. until time of service Friday at the chapel.

Memorials may be given to the Boone Area Humane Society. Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
