Endel "Andy" Reinap 1920-2002

Endel "Andy" Reinap, 82, 1104 Eighth St., Boone, died Friday at the Eastern Star Masonic Home, Boone, of cancer. He was born July 22, 1920, in the state of Estonia, the son of Rudolph and Elwine (Mattek) Reinap. He married Edith Snowdon March 26, 1944, in Lexington, MA.

He graduated from Lexington High School in Lexington, MA in 1937. He served as a gunnery sergeant with the United States Marine Corps aboard the USS Savannah during World War II. Following the war, he was a carpenter/contractor in North Miami, FL. He attended Lutheran Lay Training Institute at Concordia College in Milwaukee, WI from 1964 to 1966 and from 1966 to 1987 lived in California where he became a lay minister for the District Missouri Synod for the states of California, Nevada and Hawaii. He retired in 1987 and lived in Des Moines from 1991 to 2001 when he moved to Boone. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Marine Corps League. His hobbies included woodworking, traveling to USS Savannah reunions and reading.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Gail of Indianola, Allan and Mary Ellen of Reno, NV and Robert and Melanie of Waupun, WI: one brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Doris Reinap of Framingham, MA; two sisters, Lilian Newton of Athol, MA and Hulda Auld; his special friend, Dee Cotton and her family of Boone; and five grandchildren, Robbynn, Richard II, Parker and Russell Reinap and Sarah Stanislawski.

The body has been cremated.

A memorial service and burial of the cremains will be held in Athol, MA at a later date.

Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, Boone, is in charge of arrangements.
