Lorraine Roberts 1913-2000

Lorraine Roberts, 87, formerly of 316 South Greene St., Boone, died Nov. 17 in Arlington, Texas of congestive heart failure. She was born Feb. 19, 1913, in Logansport, the daughter of Charles and Ida (Mattson) Johnson. She married Truman Roberts June 5, 1933, in Des Moines.

She worked for a time at the Woolworth store in Boone. She and her husband farmed south of Perry until 1960, when they moved to California. They returned to Iowa in May of 1990, making their home in Boone. Following her husband's death in 1998, she moved to Texas to live with her daughter. She was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone and made award winning cherry pies and quilts.

She was preceded in death by her husband in April of 1998; one son; four brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Brenda Roberts of Sacramento, Calif.; one daughter, Linda Roberts of Arlington, Texas; one granddaughter, Melissa Roberts of Dunsmuir, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Brent, and Elizabeth; two sisters, Betty Stolte of Boone, and Arlene Kuhlman of Chicago, Ill.; a special friend as an adopted daughter, Jodi Berry of Arlington, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry with Father Raymond Higgins officiating. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at Stark-Welin Chapel, Boone, Friday from 2 to 5 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

Stark-Welin Funeral Directors of Boone is in charge of arrangements.
