View Tribute BookMildred Samson, age 87, of Boone, died at her home on May 18, 2011. Funeral services are Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Chuck Spindler officiating. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery.
Mildred was born in Boone on August 26, 1923, the daughter of Holmes and Allie (Payne) Partello. She graduated from Jordan School in 1941 and attended Iowa State College for one year. On September 26, 1945, Mildred married Kenneth Ralph Samson in Boone. The couple lived all of their married life in the Boone area.
In earlier years, Mildred worked at the Ordnance Plant in Ankeny during the war, and then worked at the John Deere plant in Ankeny with Ken for three years. She then raised a family and was a partner in the family farm operation, east of Boone.
Mildred enjoyed her grandchildren's activities, playing duplicate bridge, reading, jigsaw puzzles, and watching antique shows and sports on television. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii and Alaska. Mildred especially enjoyed scenery and sunsets. She was very proud of her family and loved spending time with them.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Kenny, two brothers Herald and Rosco Partello, two sisters, Clara Flynn and Queenie Bennett, and an infant sister Margaret K. Partello. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Dr. Tom Young of Creston and Nyla and John Carswell of Boone; eight grandchildren: Daniel Carswell and wife Brooke of Ames, Anna Carswell and Michael Carswell, both of Boone, Alicia Funk and husband Andrew of West Des Moines, Kristen Young of Des Moines, and Aaron Young of Creston; a great grandson, Grayson Funk; and nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. where the family will be present after 12:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family to establish a memorial fund at a later date. ~ The Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Boone, Iowa 18 May 2011.
