DEATH NOTICE

John Higby of Modesto, California passed away at the age of 85 from cancer. Burial at the VA cemetery was held with full military honors.

MAR 20, 1925 - MAY 10, 2011

Father Grover Higby, Mother Mary Wilson Higby, John was born in Zookspur Ia. After high school he joined the Army Air Force and served in the Pacific in a B29 Squadron as a gunner. Had 20 missions over Japan. After the war John attended collage and become a Aeronautical Engineer and went to work for Lockheed. After retiring John ended up in Modesto for the past 25 years.

John is a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 10644, American Legion Post #74, VFW Post 3199, Stanislaus Voittue 653 and the Modesto Veterans Funeral Detail and Honor Guard. John loved serving his fellow Veterans. Due to a long fight with cancer John had to stop all these activities.

All services will be held at St. Joseph's Church at 1813 Oakdale Rd., Wednesday, May 18, 2011, a rosary at 7:00pm, Thursday a mass will be said at 9:30 am, at 12:30 services will be held at San Joaquin National Cemetery with full Military Honors (32053 McCabe Rd. Santa Nella, Ca.)

John had several nieces and nephews in Iowa and no one on the West Coast.
