Henry J. Luetjen Dies on Sunday
Henry John Luetjen, 71, of 2407 40th Street Place, Des Moines, died Sunday, Jan. 8 at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He had been ill for about 10 days with bronchial pneumonia.
He was born in Boone and lived here until 1918 when he enlisted in the Army in World War I. He received the silver star for gallantry in action, the purple heart and the victory medal in that war.
He graduated from Boone High School and the University of Iowa law school. He was the legal member of the rating board specialist of the Veterans Administration at the time of his retirement in August 1949.
He is survived by his wife, Ynona, a son, Henry John Luetjen, II of Des Moines, a teacher in Kurtz Junior High School and two sisters, Hilda and Laura Luetjen, of 1327 Tama Street, Boone.
Mr. Luetjen was a member of Argonne Post of the American Legion, the 40 & 8 and St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. from Dunn’s Funeral Home on Grand Avenue with the Rev. Louis H. Valbracht in charge. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
