Dora Young, daughter of Jonas and Hilda (Bocklund) Young, was born Oct. 6, 1901 in Stratford.

On March 8, 1922, she married Alva L. Simonson at Fort Dodge. While living in Stratford, she was a seamstress. In 1957, she moved to Des Moines where she was employed by the Des Moines School District in the hot lunch program of the Food Service Department. She moved back to Stratford in 1962 where she worked on the hot lunch program for Headstart in Fraser until her retirement in 1965.

Mrs. Simonson died Dec. 14, 1993 at the Boone County Hospital in Boone at the age of 92 years. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Stratford Baptist Church with the Rev. David Fernlund officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, north of Stratford. Visitation is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford and from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita and Floyd Schleusener of Havelock, Doris and Jim Ward of Sun City West, Ariz., Marlowe and Bill Ades of Boone, Helen Marie and Bob Lind of Pilot Mound, Carolyn and Merrill Cottington of Boone; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Irene Simonson of Madrid, Duane and Donna Simonson of Arthur; 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and brother, Arthur Young of Stratford. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1963, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter, one sister and five brothers.

She was a member of Stratford Baptist Church, American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star Magi Chapter.
