Joseph E. Wheeler, 83, Boone, died at his home Sunday afternoon.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Schroeder Funeral Home, Boone, with the Rev. Scott Woodworth of the First United Methodist Church, Boone, officiating. Burial will be in Mackey Cemetery near Boone.

Mr. Wheeler was born in Boone County Oct. 4, 1889. He farmed in the Harrison Township area for many years. He was the son of Elihu and Elvira V. (Briley) Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler married Lilly Toepfer Feb. 14, 1912.

Survivors include his wife, Lilly; three daughters, Mrs. Hilford (Geneva) Satre, Stanhope, Mrs. Irene Johnson, Story City, and Mrs. Opal Leora Thorson, RR4; a brother, John Wheeler, Virginia; a sister, Mrs. Viola Nelson, Boone; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Wheeler was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
