Herbert H. L. Vaudt - Oct. 22,1912 - Dec, 11, 2003

Herbert H. L. Vaudt, age 91, of Storm Lake, Iowa, formerly of Boone died Thursday, December 11, 2003, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake following a brief illness.

Herbert Henry Ludwig Vaudt was born October 22,1912, in Van Meter, Iowa, the son of Herman and Charlotte (Wolf) Vaudt. He attended school in Wittemore, Iowa.

On December 12, 1937, he was united in marriage to Hertha Louise Boysen at Ida Grove, Iowa. Hertha died on December 13, 2002, the day after their 65th wedding anniversary.

Herb worked in sales and management for the McCurdy Seed Company and for several other seed companies. He also had been a farmer in the Paton area and worked for 12 years for the Cal-Car Company.

He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone, the Fellowship Club at church, and he was an avid card player. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Herb is survived by three sons and their wives; Don and Myrene of Dakota Dunes, SD, Dick and Jan of Marshalltown, IA, and Denny and Sue of Storm Lake, a daughter Debra Strasser and her husband, Roger of Sioux Falls, SD, 13 grandchildren: Shari Benson and her husband Marc, Sharla Mozer and her husband Brad, Shelley Clayton and her husband Dale, Brad Vaudt and his wife Dawn, Brian Vaudt and his wife Shanan, Brady Vaudt and his wife Liz, Brenda Headington and her husband Darin, Cory Vaudt and his wife Bridget, Dan Vaudt, Libby Vaudt, Jill Metheny and her husband W.D., Jodi Johnson and her husband Jeff and Laura Hines. Also surviving are 23 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Elmer Rice of Sioux City and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and by a sister, Luella Thayer.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 13, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone with Pastor Lindsay Watkins officiating. A graveside committal service will be held at 4 p.m. on December 13 at the Storm Lake Cemetery with Pastor Mark Youngquist of St. Mark Lutheran Church officiating. A memorial fund has been established.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Friday, December 12, 2003, after 3 p.m., where the family will be present from 4 to 6 p.m.
