Thomas Cole Tanner, 40, of Winterville, GA passed away Saturday, April 25 2009.
A native of Corvallis, OR, Tom was the son of Richard Thomas and Sarah Johnson Tanner of Boone, IA. He graduated from Ames High School in Ames, Iowa and received his Bachelors degree from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. Tom went on to get his Masters Degree in Economics at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and then his PhD in Economics at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. He was the Director of the Center for Economic Modeling at Clemson University.
Tom's love for the theater allowed him to be associated with the Duluth Playhouse in Duluth, MN, the Des Moines Playhouse in Des Moines, IA, the Boone Community Theater in Boone, IA, and the Town and Gown Players in Athens, GA. An avid hiker, Tom had extensively traveled Europe and the western U.S., his favorite hiking location being Escalante, Utah.
In addition to his parents, Tom is survived by his daughter, Camryn Sarah Tanner of Carlton, GA, and countless friends in his theater community.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Tom's family has requested donations be made in his memory to the Town and Gown Players, P.O. Box 565, Athens, GA 30601.
