Kris Dale Eschliman, 55, of Boone died Friday, March 6, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident near Pilot Mound. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at First Presbyterian Church in Boone with the Revs. Daniel Emmert and Dr. Richard Harken officiating. Burial will follow at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
He was born Sept. 25, 1953, in Sioux City, the second of two sons born to Dale and Doris (Wray) Eschliman. His family moved to Boone when he was a young child, and he attended school in Boone, graduating in 1972.
Kris married Martha Stansbury Aug. 25, 1973, in Eagle Grove, and they later divorced. Their marriage produced two sons: Anthony Charles and Dustin Jeremy.
He also had three four-legged "kids"-Sage, Ginger and Arty-who were almost always at his side. They frequently rode with him in his truck, even to church or to visit "Grandpa and Grandma" in Boone.
Kris attended Scott Community College in Davenport and later moved to Florida, where he worked as a U.S. Coast Guard-certified small boat captain and as a PADI-certified SCUBA instructor. He returned to Iowa and owned and operated Midwest Diver's Supply in Boone for a number of years.
He then attended Des Moines Area Community College in Boone and Iowa State University, graduating from each with high honors. He had a bachelor's degree in English from ISU.
Kris loved to spend time with friends and family, paintball shooting with his sons and shopping at auctions. At the time of his death, he worked as a computer-aided draftsman and land-surveying technician for Eschliman Engineering, Inc. of Boone.
He regularly attended services at First United Presbyterian Church in Paton. He had just recently welcomed the Lord back into his life.
Survivors include his parents, Dale and Doris Eschliman of Boone; his brother, Kirk (Leah Noel) Eschliman of Waterloo; his sons, U.S. Air Force Capt. Anthony (Amy) Eschliman D.O. of Misawa, Japan, and Dustin (Shawna) Eschliman of Des Moines; and granddaughters Emma Kaitlyn, Avery Morgan, Kenna Lynn, Isabelle Carissa, Olivia Grace, Allana May and Irelyne Mikell.
Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone. The family will be present 6-7 p.m. Visitations will continue on Wednesday morning at the Chapel from 8 - 11 a.m. when the casket will be taken to the Church where visitations will continue from Noon until the time of service.
Memorials may be directed to First United Presbyterian Church in Paton.
