Dennis Stanley Reed, age 61, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away March 17, 2009 at Archbishop Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Dennis was born September 10, 1947 in Boone, Iowa to Stanley and Jane (Carlson) Reed. He graduated from Boone High School in 1965 and attended DMACC for one year. Dennis served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired as a conductor on the Union Pacific Railroad in 2007 after 34 years of service.
Dennis was a member of Open Bible Church in Boone and a 34 year member of the Iowa Coursing Association.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Vigus and mother, Jane Reed.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 18 years, Sue (McDaniel) Reed of Ogden; son, Scott Gillispie and wife Jee of Omaha; daughters, Kristi Reed of Ogden, Lynn Reed of Omaha; 5 grandchildren, Zane Nichols, Genna Reed, Alexandra Gillispie, Camerin Jones, Liam Gillispie; father and stepmother, Stanley and Irene Reed of Boone, Iowa; brother, Gary Reed and wife Peg of Gilbert, Arizona; stepsisters, Susan Whitmer and husband Steve of Austin, Texas, Linda Kellar and husband Don of Springfield, Missouri; stepbrother, Johnnie Jones of Boone; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation with the family, Friday, 6-8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill Funeral Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Funeral service, Saturday, 1:00 p.m. at the mortuary with Pastor Arlen Schafer of Open Bible Church, Boone, Iowa, officiating. Interment Hardin Township Cemetery, rural Council Bluffs, Iowa. Military honors will be tendered by Council Bluffs American Legion Post #2.
A lunch will follow at the V.F.W. Club in Council Bluffs. The family will direct memorials. In addition to the funeral service, a Celebration of Life Service will be held, Tuesday, March 31, 2009 from 6:30 -8:00 p.m. at the Open Bible Church in Boone, Iowa.
