Evelyn Lindahl, age 91, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, died Saturday, February 14, 2009, at the Home. Funeral services are Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Phil Webb officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, north of Madrid.
Evelyn was born in Boone County near Luther, on August 13, 1917, the daughter of John and May (Sturdivant) Williams. She attended country school through 8th grade and graduated in 1934 from Madrid High School. In 1942, Evelyn married Paul Lindahl in Missouri. She taught country school in Boone County. Evelyn graduated from Drake University in 1964 and then taught in Madrid and at Lowell and Bryant elementary schools in Boone. She retired in 1980. After retirement, Evelyn enjoyed volunteer work at the Boone County Hospital and Boone Scenic Valley Railroad. She was a life member of the Iowa State Teacher's Association, Retired Teachers Association, and AARP. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Church Women United, and United Methodist Women. Until 2007, she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Boone County Hospital Auxiliary. Evelyn was also a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed her family and friends, especially spending time with her granddaughter, Heather. In earlier years, she enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles, and traveling with her husband.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Evelyn is survived by her son, Paul "Lindy" and wife, Mary of Boone and a granddaughter Heather Cross and husband Mike of Forsyth, Illinois.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation continues Wednesday at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the 10:00 a.m. service.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Boone.
