Thelma Auxier Vaughn, age 87, of Boone and the Evangelical Free Church Home, passed away February 9, 2009, at the Boone County Hospital. Funeral services are Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Andrea Kraushaar officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery east of Luther.
Thelma was born in rural Wayne County near Bentonville on April 30, 1921, the daughter of Guy and Mabel (Helt) Auxier. She attended Allerton High School and graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1941. On September 28, 1946, she married Marvin Vaughn in Humeston. The couple lived in Wayne County until 1948, Des Moines until 1952, and rural Ames until 1980 when the couple retired to Boone. Thelma worked as a nurse's aide at Harkens Hospital in Osceola and the former Ledges Manor in Boone. She then did assembly work at Bourne's in Ames. She retired in 1983. She was a member of the Napier United Methodist Church before transferring to the First United Methodist Church in Boone in 1981. In earlier years, she was very active with Sunday School, Bible School, and other children's activities of her church. She enjoyed quilting, needlework, and flower and vegetable gardening.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter, Suni Jean Vaughn Stolp; infant brother, Raymond, brothers, Maurice and Leslie Auxier, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Max and Lorene Vaughn, Dick and Marilyn Moore, Dick Frandson, and Bill McCullough. She is survived by a son, Stanley and wife, Pam of Omaha, Nebraska; a daughter Norine Vaughn of Boone; a grandson, Tim and Denai Vaughn of Dallas, Texas; great-granddaughters, Cassie Faucher of Houston, Texas and Victoria Vaughn of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Wilma McCullough of Des Moines; a brother-in-law, Carroll and Arlene Vaughn of Kellogg; sisters-in-law, Wilma Auxier of Chariton, Virginia Auxier of Humeston, and Shirley Frandson of Story City; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until the service time of 10:30 a.m.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
