Nancy E. Hadaway, age 89, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at the Home. A Funeral Mass will be Saturday, December 20, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, north of Gilbert, with Rev. Everett Hemann officiating. Burial will be in the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, rural Gilbert.
Nancy was born in Boone on December 28, 1918, the daughter of Clarence and Nancy (Mummy) Eckley. She graduated from Story City High School in 1937. Nancy married Wallace Hadaway on February 18, 1941, in Boone. The couple farmed in Harrison Township in Boone County, until the 1970's and moved to Boone in 1986. In earlier years, she worked as an assembler at Bournes in Ames. Nancy was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone, the Rosary Society, and Ladies Aide. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, ribbon embroidery, and making rosaries for the missions. She and her husband enjoyed dancing and wintering in Mercedes, Texas.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Leo, and six sisters, Rose Hadaway, Josephine Jo Beckett, Myrtle McManus, Harriett McCracken, Katie Fortune, and Lola Lewis. She is survived by five sons, Larry Hadaway and wife, Mary of Ames, John Hadaway and wife, Sarah of Huxley, Darrell Hadaway and wife, Barbara of Arvada, Colorado, Tim Hadaway and wife, Jill of Boone, and Jef Hadaway and wife Listi of Gilbert; three daughters, Karen Fogarty of Kenai, Alaska, Vicki Hadaway of Chicago, Illinois, and Mary Sayre and husband Eric of Boone; 21 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets on Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues Saturday at the funeral chapel from 8:00 until 10:00 a.m.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
