Willis "Bill" Browning, age 73, of 668 Nature Road died Wednesday, December 24, 2008, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. His body has been cremated and a Memorial Service will be Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets with Rev. Dick Dahle officiating.
Bill was born in Boone County on August 6, 1935, the son of Averill and Ruby (Godwin) Browning. He married Dorothy Jean Bollenbaugh in 1961. She passed away in 1963. On November 4, 1967, he married Virginia Ann Baker in Yankton, South Dakota. Bill served with the United States Army from 1958 to 1960 and was stationed in Germany with the 124th Division. He was a truck driver for Boone Freight Lines for 30 years, retiring in 1998. Bill was a member of the Iowa Association of Teamster Retirees Local #147. He enjoyed collecting "logo" caps and John Deere memorabilia, and farming.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and first wife. He is survived by his wife, Ann of Boone; two sons, Bill Browning and wife, Janelle and Mike Browning, all of Boone; four sisters, Sheila Campbell and husband John of Oskaloosa, Sandra Peterson and husband Bob, Donna Rodgers, and Marsha Springer and husband Leonard, all of Boone; and four grandchildren; Malorie, Madison and Megan Browning, all of Boone, and Emma Browning of Boxholm.
Friends may call Monday at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Visitation continues Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
