LaVera E. C. Boyd, age 93 of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home of Boone, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2008 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home of Boone.
LaVera was born on March 2, 1915 in Logansport, Iowa, the daughter of Herman C. and Ida C. (Petersson) Lindahl. She attended the Pleasant Hill School by the Boone County High Bridge. At the age of 11, she climbed to the highest point of the bridge with her twin sister and brother. In 1934 she graduated from Boone High School. After high school she went to Minneapolis to work at a Hosiery Mill for two years. On May 2, 1936 LaVera married Raymond Clyde Boyd in Jefferson, Iowa. She was a homemaker and also worked at the Iowa State University in the Westgate Dorm, where she was a cook and worked in housekeeping for eight years. LaVera has lived in Boone County all her life.
LaVera was a member of the Central Christian Church in Boone. She enjoyed drawing pictures with colored pencils.
LaVera is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her three brothers, Vern Lindahl, Walter Lindahl and Elvin "Buddy" Lindahl; her son, R. George Boyd; three sisters, Inez Lindahl at the age of 2, Viola Pearson and Elnora "Dolly" Peterson.
LaVera is survived by her daughter-in-law, Charlotte Boyd of Boone; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Lindahl of Boone; her grandson Jim Boyd and his wife Misty, of Boone; LaVera is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Central Christian Church in Boone. Rev. Paul Fraser will be officiating. Burial will be in the Squire-Boone Cemetery, Southeast of Boone.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 30, at Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., visitation continues at the church from 11:30 a.m. to the time of service.
Memorials may be given to the family, to be used at their discretion.
