Merlin "Bud" LeRoy Moravetz, 81, died at his home in San Diego, California on December 25, 2007, after a lengthy illness. Merle was born June 9, 1926, to Roy and Dorothea Moravetz. He was a graduate of Ogden High School Class of 1944. He served in the U. S. Navy Air Corps during World War II. He married Helen Francis Mondt of Boone. The family resided in Boone until they moved to San Diego 48 years ago.
Merle was employed by the U. S. Postal Service in Boone and served as Superintendent of the El Cajon, CA, Post Office. He was a member of Elks Lodge #168, Al Bahr Shrine, American Legion, Scottish Rite and the San Carlos United Methodist Church in San Diego area. He held Life Memberships in the Masonic Lodge and VFW in Boone. He served as a volunteer at Grossmont Hospital for over 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law and a baby sister.
Surviving family members include his wife, Helen; daughter Marsha and husband James Bird of El Cajon; son Mark Moravetz of San Diego; grandchildren James Bird , Elizabeth (Bird) and husband William Joseph Kilpatrick, Brian and Rosemary Moravetz; great-grandson James Wyatt Smith; sisters Annette and husband Kenny Peterson and Norma Jean Haglund of Odgen, Iowa, and Joanne Guanaga of Silver City, NM; brothers- and sisters-in-law David and wife Yvonna Mondt of Boone and William and wife Barbara Mondt of San Diego as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2008, in San Diego.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Shriners Hospital for Children, C/O Al Bahr Shrine, 5440 Kearny Mesa Road, San Diego, CA 92111.
