Lester “Les” Duncan, age 71, of 565 Juniper Road, in Pilot Mound died Monday, January 7, 2008, at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.

His body has been cremated. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Les’ life on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Pilot Mound United Methodist Church in Pilot Mound. A prayer service will be at 8:30 p.m. A graveside service and interment of his cremains will be at the Pilot Mound Cemetery in Pilot Mound in the spring.

Les was born in Boone, Iowa, on March 15, 1936, the son of Cara Edwin and Sylvia Loretta (Tilley) Duncan.

He married Mary Miller on August 29, 1953, in Boone, Iowa.

He was a plumber and maintenance supervisor at Iowa State University for over 30 years, retiring in 1991. He also owned and operated Duncan Excavating.

He was a member of the Mirza Masonic Lodge #609 in Pilot Mound.

Les enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, reading western books, and playing cards.

He also liked spending time with his family and friends.

Les is survived by his wife, Mary of Pilot Mound, one daughter, Peggy Andersen and husband, Robert of Johnston; two sons, Mike Duncan and wife, Melody of Boone and Bob Duncan and wife, Chris of Pilot Mound; a brother, Dow Duncan of Boone; a sister, Lavina Robertson of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Duncan of Boone, and Maxine Duncan of Pilot Mound; six grandchildren, Kelly Andersen, Grant Andersen, Jessica (Kevin) Hicks, Josh Duncan, Becca Duncan, and Brooke Duncan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edwin and George Duncan.

Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
