Dorothy Mae Van Meter, age 77, formerly of Boone, passed away at her home on Friday, Oct 19 2007 in West Burlington Iowa.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Oct 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone. Rev Lindsay Watkins will officiate. Burial in the Glenwood Cemetery of Ogden.
Visitation will be held Monday at Schroeder-Walter funeral Home fifth and story streets in Boone from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. With family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church from 9 a.m. Until Service time.
Memorials may be given in Memory of Dorothy Mae Van Meter to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boone or Concordia Lutheran Church, 2901 Cliff road, Burlington Iowa 52601.
Dorothy was born on April 3,. 1930 in Ogden Iowa the daughter of Hans and Christina (Rohifs) Giese. She graduated from the Ogden High School in 1958. Dorothy was married to Boyd R. Van Meter on November 15, 1953 at Ogden Iowa. In the mid 50's the couple moved to Boone. In 1999 Following the death of her husband, Dorothy moved with her daughter Christine, to DesMoines, In 2003 they moved to West Burlington where she has been residing.
Dorothy worked with the Boone County Engineer Department as an Office Assistant for 19 years.
She was a membetr of the Concordia Luther Church of Burlington, past member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boone, member of the Dorothy Club of Ogden which consisted of 23 members, member of Iowa County engineers Office Organization, member and leader of Weight Watchers for many years. Dorothy enjoyed bowling with the bowling team "BNR Keglers" also doing crossword puzzles, embroidery, reading her daily portels of prayer and her study bible,she was also an excellent seamstress.
Dorothy is survived by her son, David B. VanMeter and wife, Janice of Woodbridge, Virginia; her daughter Christine M. Van Meter of West Burlington Iowa; two grandsons, Jared Van Meter of woodbridge, Virginia and James VAn Meter stationed at the Air Force Boot Camp in San Antonio Texas; three nephews, Harold Kruse of California, Richard Kruse and wife Lana of Ankeny, Iowa and Jim Giese of Jefferson Iowa.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Boyd in 1996; her brothers Hans, and Harry; her sisters, Elsie and Bertha; Four other siblings and her two nephews.
Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home fifth and Story streets of Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
