Verna J. Jackson, 74, of Boone, died Tuesday at Boone County Hospital of Boone. The body has been cremated and no services or visitation has been scheduled.

She was born April 1, 1930, in Boone, to William Algernon and Agatha Marie (Barrett) Saunders. She attended school in Luther and graduated from Luther High School. She has lived in Boone County all of her life.

She married John L. Jackson in 1948 at the Baptist Church in Boone. She was a homemaker and she was also a cook for various restaurants in Boone. She worked as a security guard for the Eastern Star Masonic Home for 20 years, retiring in 1996.

She enjoyed her grandchildren, holidays with her family and her cat Garfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Geneva and one brother Eugene. Survivors include her husband John of Boone; two sons, David L. Jackson of Boone and Paul E. Jackson of Boone; a daughter, Barb M. Ward of Boone; four grandchildren, Amy S. Jackson, Kyle D. Jackson, Amanda N. Jackson and Dustin P. Jackson; one great-grandchild, Shannon N. Jackson; and one brother, William Saunders and his wife, Kathy, of Lees Berg, Mo.

Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.

Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, Fifth and Story streets, is in charge of the arrangements.
