Walter Duehring, 84, Ogden, died May 17 at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden with the Rev. Stephen Ude officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden.

He was born Nov. 12, 1918, on a farm near Ogden, the son of William and Matilda (Stoll) Duehring. He received his early education in local rural schools and later attended Ogden High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Avis Meyer Sept. 28, 1941, in Ogden. He was a lifelong area resident who farmed when he returned from the war. He went to work for Wilson Transfer in Boone in 1956 and later worked for R&W Tire & Turf in Boone. He also worked for Ogden Schools and for Iowa State University as a custodian.

He is survived by two children, Marg Swigert and her husband, George, of Ogden, and Marlin Duehring and his wife, Patricia, of Boone; three grandchildren, Tim and Troy Swigert of Ogden and Curtis Duehring of Boone; and three great-grandchildren, Haley and Sarah Swigert of Ogden and Austin Duehring of Boone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one grandson, Travis Duehring.

Carson Funeral Home, Ogden, was in charge of arrangements.
