Warren "Blondie" Bergendahl, age 86, of 1127 South Linn Street #17, Boone, died Monday, April 10, 2006, at the Evangelical Free Church Home where he had been a resident since March 9, 2006. His body has been cremated and there will be a private family graveside service at the Pilot Mound Cemetery in Pilot Mound on Saturday. There will be no visitation.

Blondie was born on May 16, 1919, in Pilot Mound, the son of Ejnar and Edith (Pritchard) Bergendahl. He graduated from Boone High School in 1937. He served with the United States Army during World War II with the 323rd Infantry in the Philippines and the Pacific.

Following the war, he married Dorothy Hayes in Boone on October 8, 947. Blondie attended locksmith trade school in San Francisco, Calif. He had been a locksmith for 41 years, first in California and then in Boone, where he was owner and operator of Bergendahl Lock and Key. He retired in 1994. He also worked as a custodian at the Eastern Star Masonic Home.

He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #817 and the American Legion Post #56. His hobbies included playing cards, reading westerns, and woodworking, and he enjoyed NASCAR, especially watching Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon.

Blondie was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and a daughter, Linda Srigley and husband, Randy all of Boone; a sister, Winnifred Reynoldson of Madrid; four grandchildren, Steven Srigley of Boone, Jason Srigley of Ft. Worth, Texas, Shannon Broderick and husband, Mike and Jessica Srigley all of Boone; and four great grandchildren, Alex Vodnik, Aaron Broderick, Jake Srigley, and Sadie Srigley.

The family requests no flowers and memorials may be directed to them to be used at their discretion.

Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall is in charge of the arrangements.
