William Jap Ross, 72, Madrid, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, of cancer at his home. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid. Private committal services will take place at a later date.

He was born the son of William Perry and Lois Lucille Walters Ross.

Upon graduation from high school, he joined the Navy. When he returned home, he began farming. Bill raised livestock and later was employed with the Madrid Public School until his retirement.

He married Carol A. Mullane on Sept. 6, 1980.

He was preceded into death by his parents and a sister-in-law.

Survivors include his wife of Madrid; his sister, Thelma Lucille Ross of Madrid; a sister-in-law, Barbara Waychoff of Cedar Rapids; two brothers-in-law, Harlan Waychoff of Cedar Rapids and Paul Mullane of Prescott, Ariz.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the Madrid Public Library.
