John J. Seidl 1926-2002

John J. Seidl, 76, of Dedham, died Tuesday at his residence due to complications from injuries received in an automobile accident seven years ago. He was born Sept. 27, 1926, the son of John B. and Catherine (Hanig) Seidl. He married Leona Oswald at St. Mary's Church in Willey.

He attended St. Joseph School in Dedham, Sacred Heart High School in Templeton, and Coon Rapids High School in Coon Rapids. He was born on, lived on and at age 16, due to his father's health, began farming the family farm south of Dedham.

He was a member of St. Joseph Parish and served his parish as director for 15 years, served on the Dedham-Willey School Board for six years and sang with the parish choir. He also served on the Dedham Co-op board of directors for 15 years, served on the Newton Township School Board and was a member of the Dedham Booster Club. He enjoyed traveling and working in his shop.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Jane Seidl, in infancy; and four sisters, Anne Von Bon, Sister Regina Seidl, Sister Francis Xavier Seidl, and Rita Smart.

Survivors include his wife, five sons, Steve Seidl and his wife Sue, Mike Seidl and his wife Jean, Tom Seidl and his wife Lori, Tim Seidl and his wife Brenda, all of Dedham, and Chris Seidl and his friend CathyVerhage of Minneapolis, MN, four daughters, Laurie Stein and her husband Lynn of Manning, Joni Wailes and her husband Rick of Boone, Nancy Weisenborn and her husband Steve of Carroll and Amy Vollstedt and her husband Kevin of Urbandale, 24 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, five sisters, Margaret Seidl of Carroll, Dorothy Rothmeyer of Dedham, Clara McCord of Colo, Lucille Greving of Carroll, Evelyn Haubrich of Dedham, and sisters and brothers-in-law Agnes Louis of Carroll, Marie and Max Bell of West Des Moines, John and Phyllis Oswald of Carroll, Walt and Marlene Oswald of Adams, MN, Andy and Iris Oswald of Omaha, NE, and Dick and Emily Oswald of Coon Rapids.

Mass of Christian Burial will be a 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Church in Dedham, with the Revs. Anthony Pick and Brian Danner co-officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Dedham.

Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Rusaries will be recited at 3 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Thursday, and a Christian wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. by the parish.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left at the funeral home in Mr. Seidl's name. Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll was in charge of the arrangements.
