June Iris (Miller) Smith, 72, Boone, died Friday at Boone County Hospital of heart failure. She was born Feb. 16, 1930, near Polk City, the daughter of Clyde and Esther (Herman) Miller. She married Everett LaVern Smith Aug. 17, 1956 in Omaha, NE.

She and her husband lived in Boone County most of their married life. She worked as a fabricator in electronics at Bourn's in Ames for 13 years. She was a member of Marion Street United Methodist Church in Boone and was active in the church. Her hobbies included painting, photography, crafts and watching her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one grandson. Survivors include her husband; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Robin and Lonnie Bennett of Nevada, Dawn Smith of Boone, Terri and Marvin Cross of Kirksville, MO and Jeri and Jason Belcher of Boone; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister-in-law, James "Jim" and Edna Miller of Ogden and Clyde "Pete" Miller of Pilot Mound; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The body has been cremated.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Squire-Boone Cemetery southeast of Boone.

No visitation is scheduled.

The family will establish a memorial in her name.

Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, 503 Story St., Boone, is in charge of arrangements.
