Frances Louise Van Pelt, 79, Perry, died April 16 at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry. She was born June 4, 1921, in Boone County, the daughter of Thaddeous James McDonald and Josephine Eugenia Tembey. She married Bennie Arthur Van Pelt June 20, 1941.

She attended Ogden High School for three years and graduated from Woodward High School in 1938. Her husband enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in April of 1942, and following his honorable discharge, the couple returned to the Perry area where he worked as a carpenter while she was a mother and homemaker. The couple moved to DeSoto in 1965 and purchased a grocery store which she operated. After 20 years, the couple retired and moved to Ogden. She was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Ogden and she and her husband wintered in Arizona for approximately 15 years. She entered Ogden Manor in 1998, and moved to the Perry Lutheran Home April 10, 2000. Her hobbies included knitting, walking, bowling, and hunting and fishing with her husband.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on March 9, 1997; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Van Pelt in 1996. Survivors include four sons, Bernie Van Pelt of Diamond Barr, Calif., Mick Van Pelt of Queen Valley, Ariz., Curt Van Pelt of Mesa, Ariz., and Mac Van Pelt of Billings, Mont.; 14 grandchildren, Lorraine McNeil and her husband, Gary, of Mesa, Ariz, William Van Pelt and his wife, Lola, of Chandler, Ariz., Angela Watts and her husband, Marcus, of Lancaster, Calif., Josephine "Josey" Dickens and her husband, Mike, of Phoenix, Ariz., Amy Senior and her husband, Loren, of Phoenix, Ariz., Dani Jo Smith and her husband, Randy, of Santa Rosa, Calif., Jennifer Van Pelt and Matthew Van Pelt, both of Woodward, and Cassandra Van Pelt, Mason Van Pelt, Amanda Van Pelt, and Lucas Van Pelt, all of Billings, Mont.; nine great-grandchildren, Jonathon, Amber, rafe, Shelby, Shane, Emma Grace, Ariel, Megan, and Ashrynd; one sister, Mary Frantum of Woodward; two sisters-in-law, Olive Smith of Burlington, and Joy Randal of Vancouver, Wash.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry with the Rev. Robert Cook officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Madrid Homes for the Hospice Facility and may be left at Hastings Funeral Home.

Hastings Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
