Barbara (Gutterridge) Bowes, 54, Vacaville, Calif., and formerly of Boone, died Saturday at Vaca Valley Hospital in Vacaville of complications of cancer. She was born Jan. 18, 1946, in Boone, the daughter of Floyd and Jeanette (Pulver) Gutterridge. She married Steven G. Bowes Feb. 3, 1968, in Boone.
She graduated from Boone High School in 1964, then entered the Women's Army Corps of the U.S. Army, serving until 1967. She and her husband lived in Missouri, Texas, Florida, Michigan and Panama, because of where her husband's military career took them. She had been living in Vacaville since 1989, and had worked as personnel manager at the Wal-Mart store for the past nine years. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Boone and enjoyed horseback riding and doing genealogy research for her family. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1969, and her grandparents. Survivors include her husband; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Kevin Cowart and Kelli and Todd Trueblood, all of Vacaville; two grandchildren, Steven and Jessica Trueblood of Vacaville; three step-grandchildren, K.C. Cowart, Kortni Cowart, and Kristin Cowart of Missouri; her mother and step-father, Jeanette and Hayverd (Bud) Wright of Boone; her mother-in-law, Bunny Bowes of Lock Haven, Pa.; her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Marty Nohe of Leawood, Kan.; one aunt; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Central Christian Church with the Rev. Ron Franklin officiating. Burial will full military honors at graveside, will be in Boone Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, 503 Story St., Boone, Wednesday from noon to 9 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday at the funeral home from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and at the church from noon until time of service.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
