Donald Eugene Ulrick, 66, Boone, died Wednesday at VA Central Iowa Health Care Systems in Des Moines of heart failure. He was born Nov. 20, 1934, in Webster City, the son of Lloyd and Lorraine (Milburn) Ulrick. He married Jessie A. Van Cannon Aug. 31, 1963, in Maryville, MO.
He graduated from Stratford High School in 1952 and lived most of his life in Boone County. He served with the United States Army in the early 1950s, then farmed in the Pilot Mound area. He then worked for Jackson Construction and then for Story Construction in Ames, where he was a superintendent. He retired because of health reasons. He was a member of Calvary Methodist Church of Stratford, the V.F.W. of Boone and the Hunt & Fish Club in Fraser. His hobbies included the outdoors, fishing, camping, gardening, western movies and listening to country music.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father; one brother, Marshall "Butch" Ulrick; and one grandson, Patrick Lowery Peppels. Survivors include his wife; one son, Richard Ulrick of Oregon; one daughter, Lori Ulrick of Oregon; one stepson, Larry Peppels and his wife, Chris, of Boone; two stepdaughter, Gloria Walters and her husband, Melvin, Sr., of Pilot Mound, and Judy Barrett of Boone; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine (Jerry) and Ed Vinchattle of Stratford; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Marion Street United Methodist Church in Boone with the Rev. Barbara Dinnen officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Madrid.
Friends may call at Marion Street United Methodist Church Friday from noon until time of services. The family will be present to receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of services.
Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, 503 Story St., Boone, is in charge of arrangements.
