J H Upton, farmer and stock raiser, Sec 9, P O Ogden, was born in Rutland county, Vermont, July 22, 1845, his father died the same year, and when eleven years of age he moved to Rock county, Wisconsin, lived there until 1864, then removed to Stephenson county, Illinois, in 1871 he settled in this county and township on Sec 16, and in 1875 settled on his present farm, owns 160 acres of land, was married in 1869 to Miss Ruth Barnum, a native of Wisconsin, she was born in 1850, they have one child: Mabel E (born April 89, 1874), the mother of Mr Upton died in his house October 1, 1879, at the age of seventy-one years
