Smyth, John, farmer; Sec. 35; P.O. Ogden; was born in Belmont county, Ohio, November 11th, 1823, and when quite young his parents moved to Muskingum county, where he was raised; there received his education and in 1861 came to this State, settling in Linn county and resided there for seven years; in 1868 he came to this county and has since resided here; he is a teacher by profession, having taught school most of the time since arriving at manhood and is also a civil engineer, but of late years has done but little at this business; November 4th, 1851, he was joined in matrimony to Miss Elisabeth D. Fitz; she was born in Washington county, Ohio, December 30th, 1831; they have eight children living; George H., Robert C., Orville V., S.A. Douglass, Mary J., John E., Effie E. and Libbie; have low two: Arthur, an infant (died in Ohio), and Willie E., three years of age (died in Linn county, this State).
