Gilbertville, Iowa - Services for Nick Sondag, 83, of Gilbertville, will be 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Gilbertville with burial in the church cemetery. There will be rosaries at Oppold Funeral Home, Waterloo, Tuesday at 3 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Wednesday at 2 p.m. Memorials may be given to the church or to Don Bosco High School.

He died Tuesday at 1:15 a.m.

Nick was born May 5, 1895, in Gilbertville, son of John and Catherine Federspiel Sondag. He married Elizabeth Weber September 28, 1921, in Gilbertville. He served with the Army in World War I. A lifelong resident of Black Hawk County, he was employed as a carpenter by various construction companies until his retirement.

He was a member of the American Legion Post in Gilbertville.

He is survived by his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Elma Mangrich, Mrs. Irma Wagner, Mrs. Joanne Odneal and Mrs. Carol Becker, all of Gilbertville, and Mrs. Geneva Madsen of Big Fork, Minnesota, and 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
