Doctor Lawrence B. Kascht, 41, died at his home in Waterloo Saturday at 6:05 after an extended illness of pulmonary tuberculosis. Funeral services were held Monday at 9:30 at St. John's Catholic Church, Waterloo, Rev. Fr. N. J. Lenz officiating, with the American Legion having apart in the services and burial in Calvary cemetery.
He was born in Gilbertville, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Girsch) Kascht on 7-27-1895, moving at the age of 12 with his parents to Waterloo. He graduated from St. Mary High, Waterloo at the age of 15 when he wrote a complete history of when the founding of St. Frances Hospital, which is in the cornerstone of that institution. He graduated from Creighton Dental College in 1918, having served five months prior to graduation in the World War at Camp Greenleaf, Ga. Prior to 1923, he practiced dentistry in Waterloo for 4 1/2 years being a government dentist, examining applicants for the army and navy.
In 1923, he located in Jesup for practice, sharing office rooms with Dr. G. N. Thompson. He was the Jesup City Clerk for 7 years, adjutant of the Legion Post there, and the last year, a member of Becker-Chapman Post in Waterloo, to which city he retired in 1930.
For short periods he was at a Government hospital in Lincoln, Neb., and the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines. His illness started 7 years ago and he had been bedfast most of the last three years.
He married Esther L. Rubert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank C. Rubert, in Independence on 9-15-1920.
His widow, two sons, Robert, 15, and Richard, 11, his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Kascht, and a sister, Mrs. Viola Winning, all of Waterloo, survived. His father died five years ago, a sister, Agnes, on 1-21-1935, and a brother, John C. died March 10, 1935.

MANY ATTEND LAST RITES OF DR. L. B. KASCHT
Many friends here learned with regret of the death of Dr. L. B. Kascht
which occurred at his home in Waterloo early last Saturday morning. during
his residence here as a dentist, Dr. Kascht was held in high esteem. He was
compelled to close his office when his health began to fail six years ago.
Dr. Lawrence Bernard Kascht, 41, passed away April 24, 1937, at his
residence, 1724 Lafayette street, Waterloo, after a long illness of
pulmonary tuberculosis. He had been bedfast most of the time during the
past three years.
Lawrence Bernard Kascht, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Kascht, was born in
Gilbertville July 27, 1895. When 12 years of age, the family moved to
Waterloo. On Sept. 15, 1920, he married Miss Esther L. Rubert, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Frank C. Rubert, of Littleton.
He graduated from the dental college of Creighton university, Omaha, Neb.
in 1918. Prior to graduation he served for five months in the United States
army, in the world war, being assigned as private stenographer to the major
in command of Camp Greenleaf, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.
He practiced dentistry in Waterloo before coming to Jesup in 1923. In
Jesup he shared office space with Dr. G. N. Thompson. He served for seven
years as city clerk of Jesup and was adjutant of Pump-Scheers post.
In 1930 due to illness, he closed his office here and returned to
Waterloo. He was given every aid of medical science and care in his long
fight against the disease.
Surviving are the widow, two sons, Robert, 15, and Richard, 11; his mother,
Mrs. Elizabeth Kascht, and a sister, Mrs. Viola Winninger, of Waterloo. His
father, a brother, and sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services Monday morning. Matthias Kies and Raphael Kies served as
casket bearers. World War veterans from Pump-Scheers Post who joined in the
military service included E. A. Brown, Q. R. Walker, S. H. Wood, S. G.
Vogel, William and Albert Vogel. Others attending were Dr. G. N. Thompson,
C. A. Emerson, J. H. Copenhaver, George Woodcock, Mrs. Clara Allen, Mrs.
James Bloom, Mrs. Carrie Rehberg, Miss Estella Strain, Mr. and Mrs. Val
Bahl, Mrs. R. R. Kies, Mrs. Will Bahl, Mrs. Maggie Bahl, Mrs. Margaret
Trumbauer, Mrs. S. H. Wood, and Mrs. E. A. Brown.
Sincere Sympathy is extended the bereaved wife and sons.
