Gilbertville--John P. Fischels, 68, at 8:10 a.m. Monday in St. Francis hospital at Waterloo of complications; born Apr. 17, 1881, in Fox township; married Anna Bovy May 3, 1905 and farmed in Fox township until 1917, when the couple moved to Gilbertville; Mr. Fischels was a blacksmith until 1947, when he sold the business to his son, Francis; leaves widow, four sons, Peter, Waterloo, Route 4; Francis; Paul and Irvin, all of Gilbertville; four daughters, Mrs. Joseph Demuth; Mrs. James Johannes, Gilbertville; Pauline Fischels, 614 Mulberry, and Mrs. James Newton, 627 Nevada, both of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren; three brothers, Matt Fischels, Gilbertville, Nicholas, Jesup, Route 11; Mike, Independence; two sisters, Mrs. Anthony Kayser, Independence, and Mrs. Mag Schmitz; preceding him in death were on sister, Mrs. Jacob Schmitz, Gilbertville, and one grandchild; body at O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home at Waterloo.
