Michael Fischel, Sr, 85, died at 8:45 pm Saturday at his home in Gilbertville of pneumonia after two days duration.
He farmed in Fox Twp. from 1879 until 1905, when he moved to Gilbertville.
Deceased was born 8-12-1845 in Germany. He married Miss Lizzie Brick in 1874, in Germany, and in 1879, the couple came, with them three children, to America, settling in Fox Twp.
Mr. Fischel was a member of the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception.
Survivors are five children: Mrs. Katherine Kayser and Michael Fischel, Jr, both of Independence; Mathias, John, and Nick Fischel, all of Gilbertville; also 36 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Margaret Schmidt, preceded him in death at Gilbertville in 1910.
Funeral services will be held at 9 am Tuesday in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Rev. William Cramer, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Gilbertville. Mr. Fischel's wife also is critically ill of pneumonia.
