Mathias Dellagardelle, age 76, one of Black Hawk County's pioneers, died at 8 a.m. today following a short illness at his home in Gilbertville.

He is survived by the following children: Nick and Peter, Waterloo; John and Mike, Gilbertville; Mrs. Lena Webber, Raymond; and Mrs. Mary Karteback, Jesup.

Funeral arrangements will be made later.

Funeral services for Matthias Dellagardelle, whose death occurred at the home of his son, Michael, at Gilbertville at 8 a.m. yesterday, will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Gilbertville, at 9:45 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Fr. John Nemmers will be in charge, with burial in the churchyard.

Decedent was born March 20, 1942 in Germany and came to America in 1866. Two weeks after landing in this county, he married Susan Pysen, who had come over on the same boat. They located at Naperville, Illinois, where they lived until 1884, when they came to Black Hawk County, settling on a farm in Fox Twp. Mrs. Dellagardelle preceded him in death seven years ago.

Surviving are the following children: Michael, Gilbertville; John, Raymond, Iowa; Peter, East Waterloo; Nicholas, Waterloo; Mrs. W. F. Webber, Fox Twp., and Mrs. Mary Kurtenbach, Jesup.
