Obituary

Dakota Marie Howard, 23, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Sunday, May 3, 2020.

She was born April 11, 1997 in Chester, Illinois, daughter of James Miller and Lora Doerflein.

Dakota attended high school in Freeburg Illinois, where she graduated in 2015. Dakota loved to run track, cross country, and be involved in school activities. Dakota was loved by many, and most would describe her as a ray of sunshine ready to bring a smile to anyone she came in contact with. Dakota enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews and cherished her family. Dakota had dreams of becoming a cosmetologist, as she enjoyed making people feel good about themselves. Dakota had a beautiful gypsy soul that will be missed by many.

Survivors include: her mother of Waterloo; two sisters, Tekoa Howard of Murphysboro, Illinois and Taylor Howard of Lebanon, Illinois; a brother, Dilyn Shank of Pinckneyville, Illinois; maternal garndparents, David and Carolyn Doerflein of Pinckneyville, Illinois; and two aunts, Vicki (James) Hoskins of Chester, Illinois and Christine Doerflein of North Carolina.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is assisting the family.
