DeLora Kay Anderson

August 20, 1933 - April 28, 2020

Obituary

DeLora Kay Anderson, 86, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 28, at Pinnacle Specialty Care.

She was born August 20, 1933, in Fargo, North Dakota, daughter of Rudolph and Martha Hauff Brandenburger. DeLora married James Anderson on March 4, 1953 in Minneapolis, Minnesota; he preceded her in death on June 19, 2003.

Delora enjoyed visiting her friends in the neighborhood; she would walk to their house to chat regularly. As she did not drive she walked everywhere toting her seven children with her. She walked to the parks to play and visit friends that were across town. DeLora enjoyed her walking, and she did it every day until she no longer could.

She wrote letters religiously to all her family and friends. Everyone enjoyed her letters and felt special to receive them. DeLora continued her letter writing even when texting and emailing came into play. She loved playing solitaire, and beat whoever challenged her in Kings Corner and 500 Rummy. DeLora’s favorite word was "whoop-de-do" and "criminy sakes."

She was famous for her potato salad at family gatherings and grab bags at Christmas. DeLora guarded her grab bags, as not to allow grandkids to take more than one, she always gave in.

DeLora loved her family….The Best Grandma Great, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. DeLora was a loving mother, wife, sister and friend. She was kind; she had grit and a great sense of humor. DeLora is and will be missed by all.

Survivors include: three sons, LeRoy (Paula) Anderson of Waterloo, Donald Anderson of Des Moines and Robert (Merley) Anderson of Yigo, Guam, four daughters, Jackie Kane of Lake Mills, Gale (Doug Hugo) Simpson of Lake Mills, Joanne Anderson of Waterloo and Carol (Terry Frohling) Anderson of Waterloo, 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and two sisters, Arlene Schmidt of Arlington, TX and Jane (Curt) Tyler of Valrico, Fla.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, James, a son-in-law Dale Simpson and two sisters, Marilyn Beck and Darlene Bobbe.
