ENGLEDOW RITES AT LA PORTE CITY
Son of Pioneer Settlers of Benton County Dies at Waterloo of Heart Ailment

Hiram C. Engledow, 76, who was a resident of Benton county for nearly three quarters of a century, his parents having been among the earliest settlers near here, died Wednesday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. C. Young, 726 Second street west, Waterloo, where he had lived for the last five years.

-Farmer for Many Years-
Mr. Engledow was born May 18, 1856 in Benton county, the son of Mr & Mrs Emanuel Engledow, who came to Iowa from Whitestown, Ind., in a covered wagon the year he was born. He farmed on the home place nearly all his life.

He married Martha Lane in Benton county, April 7, 1876.

He is survived by his widow, a son, George Engledow, Unity, Wis.; and four daughters, Mrs. Young; Mrs. George Riggle and Mrs. Otis Coy, both of Shellsburg, and Mrs. Elmer Riggle, La Porte City; also a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

-Funeral Rites Friday-
He was preceded in death by four children, his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at the Barnhart chapel, La Porte City, at 2 p.m. Friday with burial in the Engledow cemetery between La Porte City and Mt. Auburn. Rev. C. D. James, M. E. pastor will officiate. Mr. Engledow's father gave the land for the cemetery.
